BOOTLE COMPANY STACKS UP AS No.1
World’s largest Data Storage Company votes Stack Data Solutions top of the techies!
Bootle-based Stack Data Solutions has been declared best in the North and No.2 overall in the UK by global giant EMC, the worlds largest Data Storage Company.
With sales reaching a recession-busting £3.4 million - up more than 100% on 2007 figures - and export sales hitting $1.4 million, Stack Data Solutions could well be Bootle’s best kept secret!
The company which operates from its Bridle Way headquarters, just a few lengths away from the world-famous Aintree Racecourse, home of the Grand National, has now been asked to help develop the Irish market following some major business successes.
“Who says it’s all bad news at the moment?” said Stack Managing Director Jeff Orr. “Just two years ago it was hard to distinguish us from many other hi-tech industry specialists. Growth was sluggish and profits stagnant. However, a business trip I made to Silicon Valley in California changed everything. The US model was working much better than the one in the UK, so I hot-footed it back to Bootle and applied that model here”.
The first thing Stack did was completely change the nature of their business. The company’s staff were already highly skilled; all that was needed was some specialist training which led to Stack winning a range of awards including a National Training Award and a Best Use of New Technology regional award.
“It was crucial that we developed an outstanding Proof of Concept Centre even though it ate up our profits for a while. We were confident it would pay off, and it has – in spades!” said Jeff Orr. “Our cutting-edge technology centre in Bootle is a showpiece for the region and businesses are flocking in from all over the UK to get their hands on our cutting-edge hardware and software”, he said.
With a staggering 650% growth in the company’s data storage business, Stack is so financially robust that it can guarantee job security and is currently on a major recruitment drive.
Jeff Orr is naturally delighted by the company’s success: “At Stack we are totally committed to Merseyside – it’s a great place to do business. We’re also in the process of sponsoring monthly events at Anfield Stadium, as well as a major Northern Technology Roadshow at Aintree Racecourse in June. Well, it is just across the road!” he said.

A perfect storage storm is heading our way
IT must find a way to curtail the rising cost of storing data or face some tough consequences, says Andy Hardy
IT spending may be on hold as businesses weather the economic downturn, but the data they rely on to remain competitive continues to grow unabated.
So, while UK firms need to grow their storage capacity, they lack the budget, physical space and energy supplies to do so. This creates the perfect storage storm.
Firms will not stop investing in storing and managing data. Analysts agree for the next 12 months, the one consistent area of IT growth is storage.
And by boosting the efficiency of their storage infrastructure, companies can accommodate data growth within strictly limited budgets using a smaller hardware footprint that consumes less space and requires less energy. When these technologies are combined, the compounded efficiencies can be dramatic and immediate.
It sounds simple enough, but a major hurdle remains. Firms often find it hard to break free from the traditional storage brands to which they have grown accustomed. They are also reluctant to move when they look back at all their investment in training and the other costs they have incurred.
Intelligent-tiered storage is often cited as having the most direct economic impact on the business. This includes tiered storage across entire systems as well as within the array itself. Being able to set policies for data movement, and then transparently automate the movement of that data based on metrics such as frequency of use, represents a massive advantage over traditional storage systems. Intelligent-tiered storage also ensures that data movement is just as easy in both directions. This is the bedrock for true storage efficiency.
IT managers need to increase their knowledge of intelligent-tiered storage as quickly as possible and ensure that it is a central platform for their future storage strategy. This will help solve their immediate problems of data growth, budget limits, space and energy, and it can just as directly benefit their company’s bottom line. A healthy obsession with efficiency will be the key to weathering the storm.

CAMINOSOFT SIGNS SERVICE PROVIDER AGREEMENT WITH CHANNEL PARTNER
STACK DATA SOLUTIONS
-- Responsible for Systems Integration and Technical Support in UK --
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – November 17, 2008 – CaminoSoft Corp. (OTC.BB: CMSF), a leading provider of Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) solutions for Microsoft Windows, Novell NetWare and NetApp Filer environments, today announced the appointment of Stack Data Solutions Ltd. – a leading integrator of storage management and file archiving solutions across multiple operating system and storage platform environments – as a service provider for the company’s products, support and services in the United Kingdom.
CaminoSoft’s Managed Server HSM™ software enables IT administrators to establish rules that automate the migration of seldom-accessed files from high-performance primary storage to less-costly secondary resources and online archives, while permitting system users to access and retrieve their files transparently. The policy-based solution reclaims production storage resources for active-file usage, dramatically reduces the amount of time need for backup (and recovery in the event of a server outage), and facilitates compliance with internal governance and industry regulations.
“Our service provider agreement with Stack affords us a unique opportunity to strengthen CaminoSoft’s presence within the United Kingdom and provide technical support and services for our growing installed base of customers. Stack’s excellent reputation as a channel partner and their extensive client relationships will increase demand for CaminoSoft’s ILM solutions as well as our market share,” said Steve Crosson, CaminoSoft’s chief executive officer and chief financial officer.
“We have a great track record of working with Caminosoft,” said Jeff Orr, MD at Stack. “This closer engagement will further leverage our EMC, NetApp, IBM and HDS partnerships, allowing us to deliver the huge benefits of CaminoSoft ILM solutions to our customer base. The recovery of primary storage alone delivers a convincing ROI, but add in the backup, recovery and compliance aspects and it becomes a no-brainer.”
CaminoSoft pioneered the development of tiered storage solutions and offers products for the widest range of archival platforms in the industry, including: EMC Centera; NetApp Filer/SnapLock; IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, DR550 and N series; Hitachi Data Systems HCAP; HP IAP; and tape and optical disk libraries.
